WELCOME

Founded in 1998, Memphis Community Development Partnership (MCDP) has helped more than 30 neighborhoods and 50 community-based projects in the Memphis area become more stable and prosperous. MCDP is dedicated to building stronger neighborhoods that contribute to the overall well being of the greater community.

We work with community partners to strengthen Memphis’s communities and to provide a better foundation for all our residents.  Historically, MCDP’s community investments have been leveraged at a 6:1 ratio based on research by the University of Memphis.  This leverage has come in the form of other philanthropic grants and financial institution loans.

To date, MCDP has assisted more than 30 neighborhoods and 50 community-based projects through $2.3 million in grants.
OUR PROGRAMS

MCDP reaches out into Memphis and Shelby County, Tennessee by creating stronger neighborhoods through our core programs:

  • Community Alliance Program (CAP): Provides training, technical assistance and grants to neighborhood and community-based associations.
  • Smart Choice Communities (SCC): A proactive approach to redefining and marketing communities through enhanced communications, strategic planning and community organizing.
  • Problem Properties Collaborative (PPC): Helps neighborhoods and organizations develop strategies to redevelop vacant and problem properties through code enforcement, public policy, leadership development and partnerships with law enforcement, Environmental Court, and Attorney’s General Office that lead to safer and cleaner neighborhoods.
  • The MCDP Homeownership Loan Fund: Dedicated to the construction and rehabilitation of affordable housing, including new rental units.

HOW WE OPERATE

MCDP, a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization, works with area financial and community lending institutions, local and national foundations, local, state and federal government, community-based organizations and individual philanthropists to develop partnerships that maximize community impact.

MCDP’s programs are funded by these same area banks and foundations with additional support sought from local government and corporate leaders.  In all cases, our programs are developed with the business or philanthropic goal of each funder in mind.

Our staff carefully oversees each grant and project to ensure compliance and that goals are successfully met with positive results.

Through funding grants, hands-on applications, and program delivery,

MCDP provides technical and operational assistance for:

  • leadership development
  • building of affordable homes
  • rehabilitation and revitalization projects
  • job training initiatives
  • code enforcement
  • community organizing and awareness campaigns
  • marketing and communications
  • public & media relations
  • advocacy
  • and more

University of Memphis research has shown that our grant funds have been leveraged at a better 6:1 ratio resulting in over $13.8 million for funding for community development.

Helping to improve neighborhoods

MCDP co-sponsored the Junk Car Festival in Orange Mound in May to help residents get rid of unsightly, inoperable cars.
